INNOVATIVE TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The department consists of dedicated, qualified and experienced faculty and supporting staff in various fields of Computer Science and Engineering. All the staff members meet the requirements as prescribed by AICTE and Anna University. Various pedagogical activities have been followed by the faculty for the student in order to create interest over the subjects and the developing technologies.

The following are the various teaching methodologies used in different aspects for the delivery of course:

  1. Lecture Method and Interactive Learning:
  • Audio-visual aids, chalk, and board are used by the faculty for teaching.
  • Students are encouraged to clarify their doubts, during the lecture hour itself.
  • Tutorial Sessions for Problem-Oriented subjects are done by two faculty members.
  • During the lecture hour, first 5 minutes are used for revising topics taught in the previous class that too done by the students and the last 5 minutes is used to give a summary of the current class. Hence the students will get continuity of the previous day topics.
  1. Application Based Learning:
  • Students are encouraged to attend workshops from 2nd year onwards. As an outcome of the workshop, interested students will develop Projects/ mini Projects at the end of the workshop.
  • All third-year students are encouraged to do mini projects and are asked to submit the same before the commencement of exams.
  • Students are encouraged for an internship in the industry during vacations.
  • Students are taken to industrial visit at least once a semester to see the real-time operation.
  • Involving the students in Various coding and testing contest like TCS Testimony and TCS Code vita Contest.
  1. Practical Learning:
  • Practical exercises are taught in the laboratory.
  • Virtual Lab Exercises are given to the students.
  • In addition to the experiments given in the syllabus, students are instructed to practice additional experiments as suggested by the concerned by the faculty.
  • Software’s like Android Studio, Oracle, Net Beans, Eclipse, Argo UML are used in the development of applications.
  • Laboratories are accessible for the students during the scheduled periods and also during leisure hours for doing experiments.
  • Charts are displayed in laboratories through which the students can gain a basic idea about different Software packages.
  • Students are taken to the industries through industrial visit through that acquiring the knowledge about the real-time applications.
  1. Hi-tech Classroom:
  • All classrooms are equipped with projector, wifi facility.
  • All laboratories and smart classrooms have Wi-Fi access with air-conditioned facility.
  1. Other Innovative Teaching methods adopted by the faculty
  • Real-Time Demonstration – Models are displayed in laboratories.
  • Industry Projects– Students are encouraged and guided by faculty members to do real time projects in various industries during their final semester.
  • Online courses – Online courses are being conducted through NPTEL online courses and google classrooms so that students can post and clear their doubts at any time without hesitation and can download course materials.
  • College automation software – Each student is provided with a personal login wherein they can download Course Material, Syllabus, Question bank, Assignment topics, Short videos, and NPTEL video links.
  1. Oracle Academy I-learning 
  • Students are encouraged to have the certification course through the industry supported Oracle Academy I-learningcentre.
  • Students are provided with their personal login in order to get their certification through Oracle as like classroom environment.
  1. ICT Methods

       The Department of CSD facilitated with Wi-Fi, ICT enabled Class rooms and laboratories for replacing chalkboards to become                 integral in teaching learning interaction.
        Utilization:

  • The Faculty members of CSD design and design are highly encouraged to use power point presentation, Video Lecturing and Animated Videos for delivering lecture through ICT methodology.
  • The Faculty members prepared PPT for course related topics which can be carried into classroom and demonstrate it in an effective manner to the students.

       Outcomes
        • Department of CSD faculties and students utilized ICT methods in effective manner for their teaching and learning process.

  1. Flipped Classrooms
  • The Department of CSD faculties are encouraging the students to learn about advanced topics given by the faculty and also motivating the student to present in front of the students.

       Implementation

  • The faculties give the notes for the next day lecture topic to the students to go through before coming to the college.
  • During the class hour the student will act like faculty to explain the topics to other students in the class.
  • The faculty interact with students to give deep understanding on allotted topics through some real world example.

       Outcomes

  • This innovative method improves the student peer to peer interaction and overcomes stage fear.
  1. Brainstorming Sessions
  • The Department of CSDfaculty practicing Brainstorming Sessions for students to creategroup creativity technique to find a conclusion for a specific problem to make them to understand the complicated problem oriented topics.

  1. Project Based Learning
  • The Department of CSD faculties are practicing Project Based Learning in class and it gives the opportunity to develop students’ knowledge and skills through engaging projects by involving in depth study and investigation of real-world problems.
    Implementation
  • The Department of CSD faculty assigning two mini projects to the students as per the course file based on the subject.
  • The project titles were given to the students to make them understand their thinking capability.
  • Faculties are encouraging and guiding the students to come with new ideas for project implementations.

       Outcomes

  • The Department of CSD Students obtained knowledge to overcome real world problems.
  1. Integration of NPTEL Video lectures in teaching - learning
  • The Department of CSDfaculties are utilizing eminent professor’s NPTEL video lectures to the students for well understanding of the complex and advanced topics.

       Outcomes

  • The Department of CSD students understand the advanced topics through NPTEL videos. It enhanced the quality of engineering education by providing curriculum-based video and web courses.
